Lindy Hop Lessons
Beginning Lindy Hop Monthly Series: For 2012, the Lindy Hop series moves to Thursday, 6:00 – 7:00pm at the Mercury Cafe. Lindy Hop is a fun and dynamic Swing dance you may have seen in the movies Malcolm X and Swing Kids. It’s a little more challenging than the Jitterbug class, so we suggest starting out with Jitterbug on Thursdays or Sundays, then moving up to Lindy if you are very new to dancing! See description of Lindy Hop under our 'About - Dances' page. $30 per monthly series ($35 for 5 weeks), $10 per individual class
Intermediate Lindy Hop: Thursday, 7:00 – 8:00pm at the Mercury Cafe. We suggest having at least 2 months of Beginning Lindy Hop before moving into Intermediate class. Each month we cover different topics, like Styling, Syncopated Moves, Crazy Turns and Spins or fun Charleston steps. Always new fun and exciting material! Can be taken as a series or drop-in. $30 per monthly series ($35 for 5 weeks), $10 per individual class
Beginning Lindy Hop Drop In: $10 The first Sunday of every month we teach a drop-in Beginning Lindy Hop lesson at 5:30pm. On Sundays, $10 gets you in the door for two lessons and a dance with a live band!
East Coast Swing (a.k.a. Jitterbug) Lessons
Beginning Jitterbug Level 1: Mondays in January at 6pm, in February at 7:00 at the Denver Community Church. $30 for the month or $10 per one-class at a time.
In February we'll teach a 4 week series of Jitterbug, starting with the Basic Steps and Partnering exercises on the first week. In the course of one month you will become an Intermediate/Advanced Jitterbug dancer, with a good idea of Leading and Following, basic steps and patterns, and vocabulary. The material we teach changes every month, covering a broad range of steps and moves so you can always come and learn something new, even if you have been with us for a while!
Jitterbug Level 2: Mondays in March at 7:00 – 8:00pm at the Denver Community Church. $35/month or $10 per one-class at a time.
In March we'll continue from what we learned in February with an Intermediate level routine to a faster swing song designed to be performed at the Student Showcase in April. Students are welcome to take the class without performing at the Showcase, if you prefer not to perform!
Beginning to Advanced Jitterbug Drop-In: $10: Sundays at 6:30 – 7:45 at the Mercury Cafe. Every Sunday we teach a drop-in lesson in which we cover the basic steps and a beginner’s move. Then we’ll teach an Intermediate level move, and finish the class with an Advanced step or a fun Swing trick or dip. Something for all levels of dancers every Sunday! Even if you are completely new to dancing you’ll learn and have a good time!
Other Lessons:
The Shim Sham: $10: The Second Sunday of every month at 5:30 – 6:30 at the Mercury Cafe. The Swing Dancer’s Line Dance… see description here! On Sundays your $10 gets you two classes and a dance with live music!
Beginning Solo Jazz and The Shim Sham: $30/month or $10/individual lesson, at the Denver Community Church. Monday Nights in February at 6pm: February 6 - 13 we'll be learning the famous swing line dance, the Shim Sham! Then the 20-27 we'll be working on fundamental Solo steps including Charleston footwork and Solo moves to prepare you for next month's Charleston classes!
Solo and Partner 1920's Charleston: $30/month or $10/individual lesson. Monday nights in March at 6pm at the Denver Community Church: In February and March we'll be teaching a 1920's Charleston Routine that integrates Solo steps for ladies, solo steps for men, as well as Partnered dancing. The Routine is designed to be performed at our Springtime Student Showcase in April, however it is not required that you perform. You may learn the routine even if you opt not to perform with us!
Beginning Lindy Hop Workshop: $35 before 2/25 $45 after. Learn a whole month of Lindy Hop in one afternoon! Please see our Workshop page or Register page to find out more.
Private Lessons: Our teachers are available for private lessons for $50/hour for students currently enrolled in any class, or $60/hour for students not currently taking classes. Lesson price is good for up to 4 people. Just add $10/person after 4 people for a group private.
